The paperwork. The car. The whole picture.

We go beyond
the CARFAX report.

We dig into the available CARFAX report and service records, then compare that history with the vehicle’s overall condition through a hands-on inspection. From documented maintenance to gaps or inconsistencies that deserve a closer look, we help you understand what the paperwork says—and what the car shows.

German and Italian cars are a particular focus: Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Maserati and Alfa Romeo. Everyday cars are welcome, too.

Send the listing and tell us what matters to you. Whether it’s a first sports car, a classic for the collection or your next daily driver, we’ll discuss the inspection around that car and your goals.

The people behind the work

100+

Years of combined
hands-on experience.

Together, Mike Pytlar and the mechanics at our Long Island City shop bring over 100 years of experience working on these vehicles. That experience informs the way we inspect, maintain and care for the cars entrusted to us.

From an individual PPI to the ongoing care of an entire collection, you have a team to talk through the details with.

The details behind the decision

Build the inspection
around the car.

These are the areas to discuss when planning your PPI. The agreed scope depends on the vehicle, access and the questions you want answered.

01

Body & paint

Paint condition, panel fit, visible cosmetic concerns and paint-meter readings on compatible panels.

02

Mechanical condition

Accessible engine-bay components, visible leaks and the mechanical concerns specific to your car.

03

Wheels, tires & chassis

Visible wear and condition, plus the access needed to review brakes, suspension and the underside.

04

Interior & equipment

Cabin condition, controls, warning lights and the equipment you want checked before purchase.

05

CARFAX & service records

A closer review of the available history and maintenance records, compared with the seller’s description and the vehicle’s actual condition.

06

Car-specific requests

Discuss diagnostic scans, road testing or deeper testing in advance so access and scope are clear.

Look beyond the shine

Paint tells
part of the story.

We use a paint-thickness meter to compare readings across compatible panels. Differences can help flag areas for a closer look at possible refinishing, alongside the car’s visible condition and available history.

Materials and finishes matter. Readings are interpreted in context, and the meter’s suitability is checked for the panel being measured. Thickness alone doesn’t tell us why paintwork was done.

Before you book

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Can you look after an entire collection or fleet?

Yes. We maintain entire collections and provide fleet management as well as individual inspections and regular maintenance. Tell us about the vehicles, how they are used and the support you need so we can agree on a plan for their ongoing care.

Will you review the CARFAX report and service records?

Yes. Share the available CARFAX report and maintenance records with us. We dig into the documented history, discuss gaps or inconsistencies, and compare the paperwork with the car’s overall condition during the inspection.

Do you only inspect German and Italian cars?

No. German and Italian cars are our focus, but Pytstop Inspections can inspect any make at the Long Island City shop. Share the year, make, model and your concerns so we can agree on the right scope.

Where does the inspection take place?

Inspections are arranged by appointment at our shop in Long Island City, Queens. We welcome buyers from NYC, Brooklyn, Long Island and beyond. Contact us first to coordinate the car’s arrival and access with the seller.

What does a pre-purchase inspection include?

The scope is tailored to the car, its age, available access and your concerns. We agree on the checks and how findings will be communicated before the appointment. Road testing, diagnostic scans or more involved testing should be discussed in advance rather than assumed.

Can a paint meter tell if a car was repainted?

Comparing paint-thickness readings can highlight differences worth investigating for possible refinishing. The readings need context: panel material, finishes and the meter’s capabilities affect what can be measured. A reading alone does not establish why a panel was painted or prove accident history.

How much does a PPI cost, and how long does it take?

Request a quote with the vehicle details, listing and your purchase timeline. Pricing, inspection scope and scheduling are confirmed individually before work is arranged.

Is a PPI the same as an appraisal?

A PPI evaluates condition within an agreed scope. An appraisal addresses value for a stated purpose. If you need both, mention that in your request so we can discuss each separately.

Does an inspection guarantee the car will have no problems?

An inspection is a review of the condition accessible at the time. It cannot predict every future failure or uncover every hidden issue. We can discuss concerns and any further investigation the car may need before you make your decision.
